Life, the Loonyverse and Everything

Thoughts about life in the UK, the state of the world, governmental and commercial intrusion into our lives and anything else that takes my fancy. All from the point of view of a UK guy in his fifties trying to make ends meet in a world where business determines your quality of life.

Alternate Endings

Tonight we watched a DVD - there isn't much on TV on Wednesdays usually. The DVD we chose was 'Kingdom of Heaven' - not a bad film as it turned out. Not the usual 'Christian Good, Muslim Bad' crap - in fact it made a stand against the perverse principles of the church at the time, where the atrocities were perpetrated in the name of the christian god and anyone who disagreed was accused of blasphemy (is that how you spell it? - I've never written it before in my life).

Switched the AV stuff on, started the DVD and then had endless trailers for other films and a bloody advert for Maltesers! I don't want this crap! I can put up with 2 or 3 short trailers - they give you time to get settled in and sometimes there might even be a glimpse of a film that you might not have considered that catches your attention. But we all burst out in fits of laughter when the trailer for the Titanic Double DVD set came on - and it announced 'Includes exclusive alternate ending!' - WTF!?

This is supposedly a drama based around a historic event - and they have an alternate ending! What? It doesn't sink? It's really a submarine? It was all a dream? They all live happily ever after? Just what the hell do these people think they are doing? - walking all over history! Don't let history or the truth get in the way of a good story - remember how we were all saved in World War 2 by the American capture of an Enigma machine?
